KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Morgan McArthur, DVM

Dr. Morgan McArthur: Veterinarian. Connector. Speaker. Worm enthusiast. Artist. Auctioneer. His veterinary journey has been interesting, unconventional and rewarding.

After graduating from Iowa State University with a DVM in 1983, Morgan came to Idaho. He practiced in Salmon for a short time and then relocated to Idaho Falls where he was a large animal practitioner until 1996.

He got involved with a Toastmasters club in Idaho Falls because of a fear of public speaking. The organization created a monster.

At some point in the early 90’s McArthur began to transition from being a veterinarian who speaks to a speaker who is a veterinarian.

Uh. Oh. Change was afoot.

Toastmasters hosts an International speech contest every year. Propelled by a story that came out of veterinary practice, Morgan delivered a speech that won the World Championship of Public Speaking in 1994.

Big changes were ahead now… and in a longer story than bears telling, Morgan saw fit to move South. Not just a little ways, either. He moved to New Zealand.

He hung up his long OB sleeve in favor of a job in industry with an innovative, nimble New Zealand anthelmintic company. In the land of many sheep and not so many humans, parasite control is big business and Morgan became a practical parasitology enthusiast.

He had a fantastic decade at the lower lobe of the globe but other changes in his life compelled him to return to his home state of Wisconsin where he lives today.

His links with the veterinary profession are in leadership and communication. He was a Director for the Western Veterinary Conference for several years and has spoken at a number of vet conferences at all levels.

Today Morgan plies his observational and communication skills as an educator for the University of Wisconsin Extension. He abides by the motto “If it isn’t fun, it shouldn’t be done!” He’s thrilled to be returning to Idaho Falls!
