Veterinarian Sought in Meridian, Idaho: Practicing Veterinary Medicine the way it was intended.

We, at the Meridian Veterinary Hospital, are a privately owned, small animal hospital looking for a veterinarian who:

  • Loves veterinary medicine,
  • Wants to help and educate both clients and fellow team members,
  • Is passionate about advocating and caring for the pets under their care.

Are you a veterinarian who has the desire to practice medicine in the best interests of the client and patient?

Are you a veterinarian who loves to continue learning and growing in your abilities so you can offer that expertise to your clients and patients?

Are you a veterinarian who would like to make long term relationships with your clients and patients?

If so, you may be a perfect addition to our hospital team.  A team that seeks unity and support from one another so we can serve our clients and patients to the best of our abilities and be led by our values-based mission.

About Us

We are an Idaho owned and operated, appointment-based hospital, serving our community since 1941.  Our focus is to come along side our patients who have no voice and for our clients who rely on us to be honest and fair in how we guide and direct them in medical decisions.

Our legacy of compassion, care and fairness has allowed us to care for the pets of many multi-generational families over the years and it is a legacy we continue to strive to uphold as we add additional compassionate, hardworking, and honest veterinarians and support team.

Our mission is to focus on relationships between our clients, patients and fellow staff members.

We strive to uphold our values to continue our legacy where we can bolster our future.  Our values focus on:

  • Integrity and grace: We are a team that works together to put the well-being of our patients and the honest integrity of our actions above the needs for improving our bottom line and increasing our average client transactions.
  • Gratitude and positivity: We are a hospital that strives to go beyond just the financial success of our doctors and team members but also help meet the emotional and compassionate needs of our team by maintaining a good work life balance.
  • Hard work and teamwork: We are a hospital that strives to serve our family of clients by being willing to adjust our daily schedules and routines on occasion to be able to work in an emergency or sometimes a perceived emergency so our clients can have their pets seen by the doctors they trust the most.
  • Teamwork and growth: We have a group of doctors who simultaneously work as a team of colleagues while maintaining a degree of autonomous decision-making. Through constant communication as well as regularly scheduled doctors’ lunch meetings, we can learn and challenge each other in our growth and abilities but maintain a degree of unity that allows reassurance to the clients that we are working as a team and not as individuals.

We are a values driven hospital which should be evident in every one of our interactions with fellow team members, clients and patients.

Our mission is to focus on relationships between our clients, patients and fellow team members.

About the Role

You are the person we are looking for if you want to be a vital part of our team in both our mission and our values as we interact with clients, care for their cherished pets and work alongside a group of caregivers whose goal is to serve the people of our community and their pets.

  • Patient Care: You will be entrusted to care for new and long-term clients and their pets who have placed their trust in our hospital; many for a few decades. That trust will be given initially because you are part of our team but will be earned as you go by showing your integrity and level of compassion and care.
  • Educate: You will have the opportunity, and expectation, to take the time with clients to inform and educate them so they can make the best educated decision that works for them.
  • Grow and Learn: You will have the opportunity to collaborate with your fellow doctors as you continue to grow in your own abilities and utilize continuing education to help you and the other doctors to learn and grow from each other.

This is a full-time position, but a part-time situation could be considered with the right person who is willing to be flexible with scheduling and responsibilities.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Practicing medicine at a high level, including working up your difficult cases and providing the expertise necessary to ensure the best outcomes.
  • Managing a surgical case load, depending on your level of interest with surgery, and ensuring the utmost safety and comfort for your patients.
  • Taking the time with clients to help endear them to yourself, but especially to the practice as you act as part of our team. Utilizing the 20-to-30-minute appointments to fully engage with the clients.
  • Interact and collaborate with your fellow doctors as we learn and grow from each other and challenge each other to continually improve.
  • Be willing to be flexible during your day’s appointment schedule to see emergencies and show the desire to help clients and pets who are in need of your abilities.

Support team collaboration and development:

  • Attend and actively participate in our monthly staff meetings.
  • Join in the collaboration and discussions at our every other month doctor meetings where we take the opportunity to learn from each other and recent CE trainings, as well as have open discussions regarding ways we can continually improve our hospital and our team.
  • Be an example of virtue and foster a positive culture in your interactions with fellow team members, seeing them as vital team members who each have a role in our overall success.
  • Be willing to participate in team training sessions, helping to coach and mentor fellow team members with your knowledge and expertise, as well as sharing your passion for veterinary medicine.

Challenges to consider at our Hospital:

  • We work together as a team and do not hold to a strict hierarchical structure. Because your job couldn’t exist without the help and support of the rest of the team, we expect everyone to be willing to help in every area from the big to the small things.
  • You may not be fully trusted initially by some long-term clients, but with time and your willingness to show them you care, they will learn to accept and trust you as well. You will also have the opportunity to develop relationships with our new clients.
  • You will be expected to put in the effort to work up difficult cases, not just immediately refer as a first response. Of course, there will always be certain cases that deserve a referral, but we believe that many of the cases that come through our doors, sometimes with the aid of your fellow colleagues, can be thoroughly worked up and treated within our hospital.
  • In an effort to serve our clients, you will at times be asked to adjust your schedule and agree to a “drop off” appointment that you can work into your schedule when it is the most appropriate and convenient for you and your case load for the day.

What we offer for a full-time associate:

  • An initial base salary of $130,000 – $140,000 based on experience.
  • Additional benefits include:
    • Paid licenses and fees (IVMA, PLIT, DEA, Veterinary and Pharmacy licenses, AVMA)
    • Annual CE allowance of $3000 plus three days paid leave.
    • Starting 12 days of PTO plus 6 public holidays.
    • Comprehensive medical, vision and dental insurance.
    • 401(k) retirement account with up to 3% match.
    • Discounts on personal pets.
  • No after hour or emergency duties, and only up to 4 Saturdays annually for vaccination clinics.

Next steps:

If this role aligns with your skills and aspirations, and our practice sounds like a place you would be excited to join, we would love to hear from you.

Please send your resume and cover letter detailing why you would be a great addition to the Meridian Veterinary Hospital to: shiger@meridianvethospital.com
